Styrenated Diphenylamine (SDPA) is a highly effective liquid antioxidant used to protect a wide range of polymers and elastomers against thermal and oxidative degradation. SDPA is characterised by its low volatility, ease of processing and minimal tendency to cause discoloration. It contributes to the long-term stability of materials exposed to elevated temperatures and mechanical stress. Thanks to its versatile properties, SDPA is widely used in the rubber industry, the manufacture of technical rubber products, and the cable and plastics industries.
MCC offers Styrenated Diphenylamine (CAS 68442-68-2) as a potential alternative to Goodyear's POLYSTAY® 29. In addition to the rubber and polymer industries, MCC also addresses the needs of lubricant and lubricant additive manufacturers. Suitability for specific applications should be verified through appropriate technical evaluation and product qualification.
Applications of Styrenated Diphenylamine
SDPA is used as an antioxidant in a wide range of rubber applications, enhancing resistance to heat ageing and dynamic fatigue. Typical applications include tyres, conveyor belts, drive belts and other technical rubber products.
In polychloroprene rubber, SDPA provides particularly effective protection against thermal and oxidative ageing, helping to preserve essential material properties. According to the product data sheet, SDPA does not adversely affect scorch safety or vulcanisation characteristics through premature crosslinking.
SDPA is widely used to stabilise polyethylene in medium- and high-voltage cable applications. As an antioxidant, it helps improve the resistance of cable insulation materials to thermal and oxidative degradation.
As a versatile antioxidant, SDPA contributes to the stabilisation of synthetic polymers and latices. Its low volatility and minimal tendency to cause discoloration make it an attractive option for a variety of industrial applications.
In addition to its applications in the rubber and polymer industries, Styrenated Diphenylamine (SDPA) is also used as an aminic antioxidant in the lubricant industry. SDPA helps protect lubricants against oxidative and thermal degradation, contributing to improved long-term stability. Potential applications include engine oils, gear oils, hydraulic oils, turbine oils, compressor oils, lubricating greases and high-temperature chain oils. Its low volatility and antioxidant properties make SDPA a suitable candidate for use in high-performance lubricant formulations. When combined with other antioxidants, it may provide further improvements in oxidation resistance.
